ASTeC hosted the FELs of Europe Steering Committee 26-27 March 2015 at Daresbury Laboratory. FELs of Europe is a collaboration of all free electron laser (FEL) facilities in Europe (www.fels-of-europe.eu (link opens in a new window)), with the goal of meeting the technological and scientific challenges of these novel and rapidly developing technologies. It provides a pan-European research infrastructure that enables exploiting the full scientific potential of these unique accelerator based short-pulse light sources. The collaboration is made up of 14 facilities in 10 countries, including ALICE and CLARA. The Committee took time out during the visit for an extensive tour of VELA and to see the first signs of CLARA installation.
