ASTeC has been able to secure an extensive amount of Superconducting RF (SRF) infrastructure from Stanford University, as part of our existing international collaboration on development of advanced SRF technologies.
Two complete cryomodules have been provided by Stanford University to support the on-going utilisation and development of the ALICE facility, and ASTeC and Technology Dept staff recently ensured that these devices could be safely transported back to the UK, by developing advanced transport fixtures which would protect the fragile components during their trans-Atla
ntic voyage. The equipment is expected to arrive in the UK before the end of December, after which an assessment of the performance can be made with respect to its appropriate application on the ALICE accelerator itself.
