The staff at ASTeC would like to congratulate scientists at CERN and their worldwide collaborators contributing to the major discovery of a Higgs boson (link opens in a new window)-like particle in both the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC. As accelerator experts, ASTeC staff have a real appreciation of the complexity of design and technology involved in a machine of this scale. The fantastic performance of machine, detectors and data analysis demonstrated over the last two years have combined to produce the success of this grand undertaking.

Staff at ASTeC are currently contributing to the high luminosity upgrade of the LHC in the areas of crab system and collective effects, working very closely with CERN and other collaborators and are looking forward to making unique contributions in the future.

This discovery will have a major impact on the direction of future research which will bring a new insight to our understanding of the universe.
